Hybrid Online Training: Thermo-Calc + Add-On Modules

Our Hybrid Online Training course is intended to give users a comprehensive understanding of the most common calculators and modules in the software. This course includes five full days, each dedicated to one of the following: Thermo-Calc, solidification, Property Models, the Diffusion Module (DICTRA), and the Precipitation Module (TC-PRISMA). The range of topics gives you a broad understanding of Thermo-Calc so that you get the most out of our products and understand how they work together. 

The course combines the best of two educational worlds—live, online instructor-led sessions and carefully curated recorded exercises. The instructor-led sessions allow you to ask questions, get feedback in real time, and focus the learning on your particular materials challenges. While the pre-recorded exercises allow you to dive deeper into each topic and learn at your own pace. 

The course requires no previous knowledge of Thermo-Calc or any of the Add-On Modules. Some knowledge of thermodynamics of alloys and/or materials science is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.

Instructor-Led Sessions (50%):

  • Enjoy the convenience of scheduled lecture viewing, allowing you to plan your study time effectively.
  • Maintain access to the Learning Hub for three months after the course, with deep discounts for renewal.

What You Will Learn

You will learn how to calculate and understand stable and meta-stable phase equilibria, property diagrams, phase diagrams of multicomponent alloys, simulate kinetics of multicomponent alloys,  and much more using the latest version of Thermo-Calc. There is a heavy focus on real world examples, so that you can learn how to apply the tools to your own engineering and metallurgical challenges.

Good to Know

The training course is hands-on with each participant working at their own computer. Much of the presentations will be in the form of teacher-led exercises. The language is English. It is recommended that you use either two separate screens or one large screen in order to be able to follow the online teacher and operate the software at the same time.

Each day starts with a live background lecture on theory and concepts.  Recorded exercises from the Learning Hub will be assigned, designed to take a couple of hours to complete.  The cohort will regroup in the afternoon for Office hours, where you can ask questions about the assigned exercises or other related calculations.

Download information for our software tools will be sent out the week before the training, together with the digital course material (handouts and project/macro files). You will also receive a temporary training license file for your own computer before training starts.
