Materials CALPHAD Database Developers

Thermo-Calc Software is a growing enterprise that leads globally the development of software and databases for computational materials science and engineering. Our products are used for both fundamental and applied research, such as design of new alloys, optimization of processing conditions, quality control and failure analysis, etc. Our flagship software Thermo-Calc is licensed to more than 1300 organizations coming from more than 60 countries. Our headquarters is located in Stockholm, Sweden, and a fully-owned subsidiary exists in Pittsburgh, USA. We have local representation through partnerships in Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, Turkey and Russia.

Responsibilities

As a Materials CALPHAD Database Developer, you will lead or join a specific project to develop materials databases for thermodynamic, kinetic and property calculations using the CALPHAD approach together with the DFT method. You will work independently and in teams, creating completely new databases and further improving existing ones that are critical to our business. You will take part in supporting and educating our clients for maximizing the impacts of calculations using our products. 

Qualifications 

  • Doctorate degree in material science or similar with extensive research experience in CALPHAD modelling.
  • Proficient in using Thermo-Calc and DICTRA software packages (or similar ones).
  • Excellent track record in thermodynamic and/or kinetic modelling and assessments.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English. 

It will be a great advantage if you have knowledge and experience of ab-initio calculations or computer programming. You should be self-directed, used to working independently and be capable of handling parallel tasks. You are expected to be outgoing and enjoy teamwork.

Software Developers at the Stockholm Office

As a software developer at Thermo-Calc Software, you will work on the entire development process, including analysis, design, implementation and testing. You will work in a team with material scientists and skilled developers. The development is mostly done with agile working methods. Main tasks will be implementation of new functionality and maintenance of our products. 

What We are Looking for 

As a person, you are structured and stimulated by working in product development projects with others. We also believe that you are self-reliant and gladly take the initiative and inspire others by finding solutions. 

Qualifications 

You probably have a Master's degree or a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Material Science or Physics. You have several years of experience in software development. We think you are a skilled Java or Fortran developer, and it is also meritorious if you have experience or interest in any of the following: 

  • Computational materials science
  • CALPHAD
  • Model development for alloy properties
