Thermo-Calc Newsletter - Number 20, June 1997

Thermo-Calc Software is a new company
created by the Foundation for Computational Thermodynamics (FCT) for marketing and distribution of its software Thermo-Calc and DICTRA. The company is presented on the next page.

TC4A
a free version of Thermo-Calc with maximum 4 components for academic use and teaching will be made available during the autumn. See next page.

New courses in Thermo-Calc will be arranged as follows:

  • Aug. 27-29 a basic course and advanced course (2+1 days) at KTH.
  • Sept. 11-12 an industrial course at Sandvik (fully subscribed)
  • Oct. 2-3 a seminar and a ``hands-on'' practice in Trondheim, Norway.
  • Oct. 8-10 (preliminary) a basic and advanced course by AEA in Chicago.
  • Oct. 20-24 as part of an applied thermodynamics course in Brazil.
  • Jan 7-9, 1998, a basic course and advanced course (2+1 days) at KTH.
  • Feb. 1998, a basic course at the University of the North, South Africa.
  • April 1998, a basic and advanced course arranged by CRC in Japan.

The basic course requires that the user has some knowledge of thermodynamics and phase diagrams. The participants will have access to a PC or workstation to solve practical examples. The graphical user interfaces ETTAN and Xtc will be demonstrated.

The advanced course requires familiarity with Thermo-Calc, at least of the level provided by the basic course. It will deal with assessments for extending the database, modelling of phases, the use of the reactor module and writing software to use Thermo-Calc in application packages.

The number of participants for each course is limited, please contact the organizers as soon as possible:
